2007 was the year of the highly popular Asus EEEPC (or triple-E PC as some prefer to call them) . The 3E PC from Asus is a cheap ultra-portable sub-notebook that raised eyebrows all over the world considering it’s features, performance and target audience.
The notebook received rave reviews from the top gadget reviews from all over the world and Asus plans to sell millions of units in 2008. (they sold over 350,000 units in Q4 2007!)

The first series (700) was a real hit and other manufacturers like Gigabyte, MSI, etc. were reported to be interested in launching similar ultraportable notebooks with better specifications and similar pricing as the Asus EEEPC. So, it was clear that something was brewing in the Asus labs so as to stay in the race; the result – Asus EEEPC 900 series officially launched at CeBIT 2008.
So how different is the second generation Asus EEEPC 900 Series? Well, Asus paid attention to the feedback from early adopters and laid out the specs of the new EEEPC; but yes, something more is left to be desired.

Conclusion
So, has the Asus EEEPC lived upto the expectations and offer feature set & performance in comparison to its low price? Or, will the world embrace it when full-size laptops are available for $500 these days? The answer is simple – yes, it does. That’s why Asus sold millions of units in 2007 alone in 3 months of launch. It is aimed towards computer illiterate individuals, students and the aged, but it doesn’t mean tech freaks didn’t pick one up for themselves. In fact it’s one of the best cheap platforms to try hardware and software modding, tricks etc. evident from the eeeuser forums.
So, should you buy one? Yes, of course…but not till you have the 900 series retailing around. I’d suggest waiting till mid-2008 when WiMax integrated EEEPC’s would be available with better features and price. There’s a huge chance of prices falling due to competition in the cheap ultraportable sub-notebook market with HP, Acer, Gigabyte and MSI joining the scene. I’m eagerly waiting to pick one of these up when available!
Overall, It’s a very good low cost ultra-portable that works for all and at under 1 kg, it’s a highly recommended secondary laptop for the developed world and as primary computer for under developed/developing countries.

This in an awesome idea, finally an ultraportable comptuer that has some real battery life to it. Sign me up for one of these babies !!!!!
Great computer, let’s hope it’s price will go down, as new ultraportables are on the way!
Just want to say that I own the first eeepc model and I love it I do however wish i had got the one with the integrated cam which i didn’t see in the shop… but now i see that the 900 is coming out I’ll be eager to get my hands on one of those puppies, can’t wait!
I have it and I love it, but I don’t use it for graphics, so it’ s kinda hard to say how it really performs.
Oh thats a sweet price. where can i get one.?
I want to buy this so could you please give me the place where I can find this product.
I purchased the EEEPC 701 4GB pearl in the November of 2007. I loved this machine so much I purchased the EEEPC 900 20GB Linux version as soon as became available in April 2008.
My primary motivation was to get hold of a machine fully supported for Linux. Both of my EEEPCs run Ubuntu 8.04 or Hardy Heron beautifully, although some devices such as the web-cam do not work “out of the box” as it were under alternative Linux distributions. The only criticism I have of ASUS as a company is that it has not paid too much attention to accessories such as power supplies etc. (extremely difficult to obtain either online or in a bricks and mortar shop). That said, it is still an amazing machine. Let’s see how it will compare to the MSI Wind which is touted to dethrone our favourite ultra-mobile computer.
Its quite a great machine. Ultraportables such as these will truly curve the future in mobile computing. We were all saying that about the iPhone and Palm Centro, but until my phone has a desktop, theres nothing I (we) can do but whip out a laptop, and if its this size and price, well then I wouldn’t see why not!
The specs are really low , I dont think its worth of buying for me.
Its great to hear that ASUS has increased the storage capacity of the 900 series to around 20GB for the Linux version and 12GB for the Windows version, Hope Eee PC 900 is indeed a worthy addition to the Eee PC series!
