Probably you’ve heard about web proxies. If you didn’t, then in simple language, web proxies enable bypassing of content filters and firewalls to browse blocked websites through your normal web browser. Why and where are some websites blocked? Perhaps you’ve seen at your school, office or workplace that certain sites have been blocked simply due to their popularity or nature. Common types of sites blocked are social networking, online games, sports, dating and adult.

This is done as so as to ensure that students and employees don’t access such sites and kill time, resulting in less productivity, Internet abuse and access harmful and objectionable sites not suitable to be browsed at public places and organizations. In some countries of the Middle East and China, the ISPs block certain kind of sites which are prohibited by country law. Sometimes, you encounter the real need to browse some useful sites but find that it doesn’t open at your PC due to strict filter rules. You want to check what comments were posted at your MySpace profile or check up live cricket scores but only to see they are  already blocked at your workplace computer.

The next thing to look for are web proxies which allow anonymous web browsing. There are lots of web proxies mushrooming everyday; some of them allow you to login to sites, while some do not. A web proxy fetches the webpage to the server and then forwards the data to you, hence should be slower than normal web browsing.
