GoogleThe news that the PR would update was in the air since the last week of June. A little activity on different datacenters was seen on June 30 and people took it as the toolbar PR update rolling in… But, to my surprise the little activity on the datacenters didn’t seem to be steady and the toolbar PR didnt change. :(

After waiting about 12 days, the datacenter sync activity started showing at around midnight of July 12th and on July 13th, some of my new sites with previously PR 0 started showing some increased PR. :) Exisitng sites with PR didnt receive any boost. Some even lost a PR point or two… :(

This is probably due to the PR update patch that we are experiencing right now, so as to correct the goof up caused by the buggy PR algo of last update. Let’s see a flashback of what happened…

Most of you already know that the last PR update in May was a bit buggy and distributed higher PR to starter and low PR sites. There was an algo change in the PR process. Some webmasters noticed that it gave more points to a search engine friendly site with great crawlability and pages that looked “static” ( mod_rewite ;) ).

There were huge amount of reports and feedback from many webmasters to google and apparently, this time they have taken away some PR points from sites which got a high PR boost last update. Same is true for internal page ranks.

My own observation on this update :

1. New sites or sites with previous PR 0 were awarded PR. Existing sites with previous PR were ignored.

2. New sites which got a high PR boost last update apparently due to good spiderability and “static” nature are a little unlucky this time, as some PR points have been retracted. For example a well known PR 6 site dropped to PR 4 and a PR 4 dropped to PR 3 !

3. Internal pages on sites which got PR on last update were surprisingly brought down to 0 or some PR points were retracted.

Let’s see what comes out in the next PR update in October 2006 and hope for the best… :)
